Embarking on the Norwegian Joy
There’s nothing quite like waking up to the sound of waves and endless blue horizons. My recent Norwegian Joy cruise to the Bahamas was a perfect mix of luxury, adventure, and relaxation. With stops at Great Stirrup Cay and Nassau, this getaway was the ideal blend of sunshine and serenity.
From the moment I stepped aboard, the NCL Joy lived up to her name. The ship is stunning—modern design, elegant spaces, and friendly crew members who truly go above and beyond.
Whether it was morning coffee in The Observation Lounge, dinner at Cagney’s Steakhouse, or an evening stroll along The Waterfront, the Joy made every moment feel special.
Travel Tip: Book a balcony stateroom if you can. Waking up to your own private ocean view is absolutely worth it!
🏝️ Great Stirrup Cay: Norwegian’s Private Island Paradise
Our first port of call was Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian Cruise Line’s private island oasis in the Bahamas. The moment we arrived, I understood why it’s a favorite among cruisers.
The soft white sand, turquoise waters, and relaxed island atmosphere make it pure paradise. I spent my morning snorkeling near the reef—spotting vibrant tropical fish and coral formations just a few yards from shore.
Afterwards, I joined a boat excursion around the island, where we saw secluded coves and took photos worthy of a postcard.
Lunch was a delicious beach BBQ featuring jerk chicken, grilled burgers, and fresh island fruit. For a little extra luxury, private cabanas are available to rent, complete with shaded loungers and waiter service—perfect for couples or families looking for privacy.
🏖️ Nassau, Bahamas: Culture, Color, and Caribbean Flavor
The next stop was Nassau, the bustling capital of the Bahamas, where colonial history and island culture meet in a colorful blend.
I started the day exploring the Queen’s Staircase, an 18th-century limestone passage carved by enslaved people—a moving reminder of Nassau’s history. At the top, Fort Fincastle offers panoramic views of the harbor and pastel-colored rooftops below.
From there, I strolled through downtown Nassau, where local vendors sold crafts, conch shells, and handwoven baskets. I couldn’t resist trying conch fritters and a Bahama Mama cocktail at a local café—sweet, spicy, and perfectly tropical.
Later, I took a short taxi ride to Cable Beach, where crystal-clear waters and live reggae music made for an unforgettable afternoon.

⚓ Life Onboard the Norwegian Joy
Sea days aboard the Norwegian Joy were every bit as exciting as the ports. I loved relaxing by the pool deck, catching Broadway-style shows in the Joy Theater, and racing on the ship’s signature two-level go-kart track—a thrill you won’t find on many other cruise lines!
Dining was equally impressive, from fresh seafood at Ocean Blue to steak perfection at Cagney’s. The crew made each meal feel personal, often remembering my favorite drink or dessert.
Evenings were spent watching sunsets from The Waterfront or sipping wine at The Cellars—a peaceful end to fun-filled days.

🌅 Final Reflections: Why I’d Cruise the Joy Again
This Bahamas cruise aboard the Norwegian Joy reminded me why I love the sea—every sunrise brought something new, from peaceful beaches to lively markets and unforgettable dining.
If you’re looking for a Bahamas cruise from Miami that combines comfort, culture, and adventure, this itinerary is a must. The Norwegian Joy delivers on her promise—pure joy from ship to shore.
